An independently owned 65-place service on Central Avenue, this centre has operated for more than twenty-seven years under the same sole owner and director for most of them, an unusual run in a sector with high operator turnover. Four rooms carry children through: the Rainbow room from about four to six months, the Ocean room from two to three years, then a Jungle room and a separate Kinder room both covering three to five. A chef prepares meals in the centre's own kitchen.

Its May 2023 assessment returned Exceeding overall, above the standard in five of the seven quality areas; educational program and practice and physical environment were assessed at Meeting. The previous result, from October 2018, was Meeting. The regulator visited again in October 2026, and the register shows no conditions and no enforcement actions.

At $145.00 a day at every age it is $18.00 below Playmakers and $26.97 below One Tree up to 35 months. The register lists no inclusions against that rate, which is not proof that nothing is included, but it means the figure cannot be set against the named items at the other two. Funded kindergarten runs in the year before school with a bachelor-qualified teacher, and Early Start Kindergarten is offered to eligible children.

Hobsons Bay leads on its rating: Exceeding, where every other long day care service in Altona Meadows sits at Meeting, so criterion 1 settles first place. It also charges the least, though with no inclusions on the register the saving cannot be checked item by item. Weigh two things: the rating dates from May 2023, and its youngest room starts at around four to six months.

This 75-place service on Fitzpatrick Drive keeps the longest day in Altona Meadows: 6:00am to 6:30pm, twelve and a half hours. It is its operator's only trading centre, and the approval passed to that operator in November 2024. The centre offers take-home dinners on Mondays, which several parents mention.

The August 2025 assessment rated it Meeting in all seven areas and belongs to the current operator, since the transfer predates it by nine months. The earlier Meeting result from March 2022 was issued to the previous approval holder. The regulator visited in September 2026, and the register shows no conditions and no enforcement actions.

Its fee is $163.00 a day at every age with eight items named on the register: breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, other meals, nappies, the educational program and excursions or incursions.

The centre publishes no age range anywhere we could reach. A Google review mentions a child starting at six months, which is a parent's account rather than an enrolment policy, so confirm the youngest age it takes by phone.

Playmakers takes second from One Tree on two of the criteria. Their ratings, August 2025 and August 2026, sit 12 months apart, which our method treats as a tie. Playmakers then charges less, $163.00 with eight inclusions against $171.97 with seven, and wins on practical fit: 75 approved places against 58, and a 6:00am opening against 7:00am. Google shows 4.8 from 35 reviews. What it cannot show is a published age range or kinder program, so ask on the phone.

One Tree Altona Meadows Children's Service is on Queen Street, approved for 58 places and open 7:00am to 6:00pm on weekdays. A community organisation has run it since January 2016. Its own page lists a babies room from birth to 20 months, a toddler room from 20 months to three years and a kindergarten room from three to six, with a Reggio Emilia-inspired program and meals such as stir fries, soups and stews cooked for the children.

Its August 2026 assessment, the newest in the suburb, rated it Meeting in all seven areas, as the May 2023 one did. The regulator visited in July 2026; the register shows no conditions and no enforcement actions. Its funded kindergarten program runs five hours a day, four days a week, with an early childhood teacher.

The fee is $171.97 a day up to 35 months and $166.46 from 36 months, with seven inclusions listed. Starting Blocks showed casual and permanent places on every weekday for the week of 19 October 2026.

One Tree is third. Its August 2026 rating is more than a year newer than Montessori Academy's (August 2024) and Peach & Plum's (February 2025) at the same level, which places it above both. Against Playmakers the rating ties, and Playmakers is cheaper, larger and opens an hour earlier. It is the smallest of the three at 58 places, and Google shows 5.0 from 15 reviews.
