The Mundaring Drive campus sits behind the Cranbourne Park shopping centre and is licensed for 140 children, the largest approved capacity among the three centres ranked here. It first opened in 1994, and the building families see today is not that one: the service was demolished and rebuilt from the ground up, reopening in late 2021. So while the name has been in the suburb for three decades, the rooms, the yards and the kitchen are only a few years old. The operator runs several campuses around Cranbourne and Clyde, and this one carries the strongest assessment result of any of them.

Its December 2022 assessment returned Exceeding overall, with four of the seven quality areas placed above the standard: children's health and safety, staffing arrangements, collaborative partnerships with families and communities, and governance and leadership. The three areas assessed at Meeting were educational program and practice, physical environment, and relationships with children. Nappies and excursions are not on that list, which matters when comparing it with the two centres below: a family here supplies nappies, where at Little Stars they are included in the rate. A funded kindergarten program runs in the year before school, and the operator states across its campuses that it takes part in the Victorian Free Kindergarten Scheme, which reduces what a family pays during the kinder year. Ask the centre to put the current funded hours in writing.

Hours are 6:00am to 6:30pm on weekdays, the earliest opening among the ranked three and half an hour ahead of both. The service takes children from six weeks, and its own site describes programs running up to twelve years, which reflects the before and after school care the operator offers at some campuses. No vacancy was published in any age band, casual or permanent, for the week the register was read, so the waitlist is the realistic route in. One detail to note when you visit: the register records the address as 18 Mundaring Drive while the centre's own site says 16-22, which is the same site described two ways.

Among the Cranbourne services a family with a baby or toddler can actually enrol in, this is the only one holding Exceeding, and the distance to the field is real rather than marginal: the next best result is Meeting with two areas placed above the standard. Weigh two things against it. Little Stars occupies a 65-place service on Walter Street, a short walk from the Cranbourne station precinct, and is one of ten centres its operator runs across Victoria. Of the three centres on this page it is the smallest by approved places, which some families prefer and others do not; the practical effect is fewer children in each room group and a smaller building for a new starter to learn. Rooms are arranged as a nursery from six weeks to sixteen months, two toddler groups covering sixteen months to three years, and a kindergarten room for three to five year olds.

The June 2025 assessment returned Meeting in all seven quality areas, with none placed above the standard. That result belongs to the operator running the service today, which took the approval over in January 2023, and the register records the transfer date, so the rating describes current management rather than a predecessor. An earlier Meeting result, from May 2022, was issued before that change and should not be read as the same operator's record. The regulator last visited in April 2025 and recorded no enforcement action in the two years to the date we checked.

What separates it on cost is the inclusion list rather than the headline rate. At $158.00 a day it is 26 cents above the centre ranked first, but the fee covers breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, other meals, nappies, the educational program and excursions or incursions: eight items against six. For a child still in nappies that difference is worth considerably more than the gap in the daily rate. The rate has also moved recently, from $149.50 in July 2026 to $158.00, a rise of about 5.7% in two months, which is worth raising when you enquire.

Its review record is the deepest of the three ranked centres, 4.8 across 104 Google reviews, and the most recent of those are months rather than years old. Funded three-year-old and four-year-old kindergarten programs run inside long day care hours, taught by a qualified early childhood teacher. The register does not publish a vacancy grid for this service and directs families to contact it, so availability has to be checked by phone. One practical note: the number recorded on the register is missing a digit, and the operator's own site gives 03 9626 5424, which is the number that connects.

Second place here is a judgement about what a rating is worth against what a fee buys. Little Stars sits a full level below Mundaring Drive on the National Quality Standard, and that decides the order. On everything else it is competitive or ahead: eight inclusions against six, a June 2025 assessment against December 2022, and 104 reviews against eight. A family that values a large and current body of feedback, or that wants nappies and excursions inside the daily rate, has a defensible case for putting it first. Because the register lists no vacancy data for it, ring before you plan around a start date.

Yaringa runs from a 59-place site on Camms Road, west of the town centre and away from the shopping precinct. It was assessed in September 2025, the most recent result of any long day care service in the suburb, and returned Meeting across all seven quality areas with none above the standard. The operator took the service over in April 2024, which is seventeen months before that assessment, so the result describes how the centre is run now. An earlier Meeting result from October 2022 belongs to the previous approval holder and should not be read as this operator's record.

At $140.00 a day for children under three, and $138.00 from 36 months, it is the lowest published rate among the ranked centres by a clear margin of about $18. Seven items sit inside that fee: breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, other meals, the educational program and excursions or incursions. Nappies are the one thing the list does not cover, so price those separately before treating the saving as a straight comparison with Little Stars, whose list is otherwise the same plus nappies. The rate rose from $120.00 in April 2025, a change of about 17%, which is the steepest recent move on this page.

The service takes children from six weeks to five years and its published hours are 6:30am to 6:00pm, the earliest close of the three. Anyone relying on a 6:15pm pick-up should rule it out on that alone, and anyone who finishes at five should find it comfortable. The register flagged general availability in the week it was read, which is unusual in a market where the centre ranked first showed nothing at all, so it is worth acting on quickly if the centre suits your family. Eight Google reviews stand at a straight 5.0, all posted after the change of operator.

The centre trades from a simple template website and publishes little about its programs beyond a preschool curriculum, so the register and a tour will tell you more than the site does. It has operated under an earlier name at the same address, which is why some directory listings and aggregator pages still carry the old one; the service approval number is unchanged, so the history on the register belongs to this service. Its published email domain also differs from the one on its website, which is worth confirming before you send enrolment paperwork anywhere.

Yaringa takes third on a narrow reading of the evidence rather than on any weakness. It holds the newest assessment on the page and the lowest fee, and its eight Google reviews all postdate the change of operator, so they describe the team you would meet. What it lacks is depth: eight reviews cannot be weighed against 104, and its list gives up nappies. It also closes at 6:00pm, half an hour before both centres above it, which will settle the matter for commuting families. If the fee gap matters more to you than the volume of feedback, and 6:00pm works, it is the value pick in Cranbourne.
