The Top 3 Childcare Centres in Brighton East, VIC (3187)

Explorers occupies 761 to 763 Nepean Highway with 154 approved places, more than any other centre here, and has held its approval since December 2017. Rooms run from a baby program (six weeks to two years) and a toddler program for two-year-olds to separate kindergarten groups at age three and age four, all built around a central Piazza for art, construction, storytelling and longer projects.

Its August 2023 assessment rated each of the seven areas Exceeding, a step up from Meeting in January 2019 when two areas had gone beyond the standard. The register lists neither enforcement action nor any change of provider. The remaining four Brighton East centres all hold Meeting.

The approval carries five conditions, all on the outdoor space. Four relate to a regulator waiver, granted on the provider's own application, that covers a period of renovation works: each child must still get safe daily outdoor time with records kept, staff must follow a risk assessment, and the centre must tell the regulator once the waiver is no longer needed. The fifth keeps climbable equipment away from the level 1 fence. Ask whether the works have finished.

The curriculum is Learning for Life, the group's program inspired by Reggio Emilia, with Bush Kinder and excursions to Explorers Somerville, music and movement, visual arts and outdoor classrooms. Chefs cook a nutritionist-designed menu in-house. According to the centre, its three and four year old kinder is Victorian Government-funded with no separate drop-off or extra fee. The rate is $204.00 up to 35 months, $200.00 from three, with eight inclusions.

Seven Exceeding areas out of seven, paired with 4.9 from 126 Google reviews, make first place clear for Explorers. The cost: its youngest-band rate tops the three, $32 a day above Brighton Kids, and no casual days when we checked. The renovation waiver was granted on the provider's own application rather than imposed, but ask how children use the yard while works continue.

Brighton Kids is a single family-owned centre in a renovated house at 309 to 311 Nepean Highway, approved in March 2023 for 72 places. Its name says Brighton, but ACECQA and Google Maps both put it in Brighton East, the suburb it trades from.

Four rooms are set out by age: a babies' room to 12 months (from six weeks), waddlers to two, toddlers to three, then kinder for the three-to-fives, with a garden and outdoor playground. An in-house chef cooks breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack. Little Sports Heroes runs on Tuesday afternoons for toddlers and kinder children, and yoga and music fill Thursdays.

The December 2024 assessment, its first, found it Meeting across the board. That date beats every other Meeting service in Brighton East by at least fifteen months, which is what lifts it to second. There are no conditions on its approval.

The daily fee is $172.00 for every age, matching the centre's own published figure, with nine items listed: four meals, other meals, nappies, the program, excursions or incursions and transport. The site describes nappies, wipes, bedding and milk as included but never mentions transport. Its About page explains funded kindergarten without saying this centre runs it, so confirm before planning around it. Starting Blocks shows only general availability.

Brighton Kids is the value choice: $19.60 a day under Only About Children up to 24 months and $14.60 under it from 25 months, the longest inclusion list, and 5.0 across 15 reviews. Its Meeting result from December 2024 is the freshest assessment among the Meeting centres, which puts it ahead of Only About Children outright. Funded kinder is not confirmed.

Only About Children's South Road campus has 140 places, second only to Explorers here, and has had one operator since its approval in July 2017. A nursery takes infants from six weeks to two years, then toddlers from two to three and kindergarten from three to five; the oldest group keeps set learning hours from 9am to 3pm.

The yard is large and varied: bike tracks, a sandpit, climbing structures, a mud kitchen, a vegetable garden and a worm farm. Meals from breakfast to a late snack are cooked by in-house cooks and eaten in a dining hall beside the open kitchen. The group adds allied health specialists, free vision screening for kinder children and short-notice occasional care for children from 12 weeks.

Rated Meeting in August 2018 and again in August 2023, it carries one condition: a documented procedure for supervising a bathroom whose layout restricts sightlines, which staff must know and follow. That is a design-related term, not the outcome of compliance action, and an officer visited in August 2026.

The rate is $191.60 a day to 24 months and $186.60 from 25 months, with eight inclusions. The operator advertises Free Kinder across its network, but the Brighton East page names another campus in its kinder paragraph, so check with the campus. Openings for both casual and permanent care showed on all five weekdays, across every room.

Only About Children won a three-way tie for third with Bambini Centre Road and Guardian on cost and convenience: it undercuts both in each band, and it had casual places, as Guardian also did and Bambini did not. Both rivals hold stronger Google records, Guardian at 4.8 from 45 against 4.5 from 25 here, but reviews only break a tie when the other three tests disagree, which they did not here.
