The Three Exceeding-Rated Centres in Doncaster East (3109)

Deep Creek is a community-run service of 48 approved places on Blackburn Road, and the smallest of the three centres ranked here. It shares its site with a separate standalone preschool that operates under a different approval and a different provider, so a family touring the address should be clear which service they are being shown. It is the only one of the three not part of a national group, which shows in how little it publishes about itself and in how long its educators have stayed.

Its assessment record is the best in the suburb. The July 2023 assessment placed it above the standard in all seven quality areas. The assessment before it, in September 2018, also returned Exceeding, with six of seven above the standard, and children's health and safety lifted to Exceeding between the two. A rating held across two assessments five years apart carries more weight than a single recent upgrade, because it shows the result is a settled property of the service. The regulator returned in July 2026 without changing it.

The fee is $143.00 a day, flat across every age band, which is $44.32 below the centre ranked second and $50.67 below the one ranked third. Eight items sit inside it: breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, other meals, nappies, the educational program and excursions or incursions. That list contains everything Guardian covers and adds two items on top, so the lower price is not bought by stripping the fee back. Over a three-day week the difference against Guardian is roughly $6,900 a year before any subsidy is applied.

One gap is worth being straight about. The centre has no website on the register, and the domain in its published email address no longer resolves, so we could not complete the usual check of a service's own material. Its age range, how many weeks a year it operates and whether it offers a Free Kinder program are therefore not recorded here, because we could not read them from a primary source. They are questions for the phone rather than gaps in the register. General availability was showing when we read the vacancy grid.

On the evidence available nothing else here comes close on value: the only seven-of-seven Exceeding rating held across two assessments, at the lowest fee, covering more inside that fee than either rival. Two caveats stop it being a formality. Its parent feedback is thin and ageing, 4.5 from fifteen reviews with the visible ones a couple of years old, where Guardian has 4.8 from forty-five and much fresher. And because its own website is unreachable, some of what you would normally check before a tour has to be asked on the phone. Weight either of those above price and rating, and Guardian is your first call.

This 115-place service sits on Deep Creek Drive with outdoor areas looking onto the Mullum Mullum trail, and it is the largest centre ranked on this page by some distance. Rooms run as a nursery from birth to two, a toddler room from two to three, and a kinder room from three to five, and the centre employs its own chef rather than bringing meals in. The building is set back from the road in a residential pocket, which is part of why parents mention the outlook in their reviews.

Its May 2024 assessment returned Exceeding in all seven quality areas. The direction of travel is worth noting alongside that: at the previous assessment, in November 2019, it held Meeting with no area above the standard, so this is a service that has climbed rather than one that has held a result. Whether a single recent upgrade or a rating held twice is stronger evidence is a genuine question, and here it is the main thing separating the top two. The most recent visit, in December 2025, did not change the outcome.

The published rate is $187.32 a day to 35 months and $184.43 from 36 months. Six items are included for the younger bands: breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, nappies and the educational program, with nappies dropping off the list for the oldest band. Every one of those items also appears on Deep Creek's list, which additionally covers other meals and excursions at $44.32 a day less. That comparison is the main reason this centre ranks second rather than first, and it is the one to check yourself.

The service is listed on the state Bushfire At-Risk Register. In practice that means a closure on any day the Emergency Management Commissioner declares catastrophic fire danger for the district, plus an emergency management plan reviewed each calendar year and available to the regulator. It is a class-wide requirement applied to services in particular locations rather than a finding about this centre. A funded kindergarten program runs on site with up to fifteen hours a week, and casual and permanent places were both showing when we read the register.

The first two centres hold an identical assessment result, seven of seven, so the decision rests on everything around it. Guardian holds the more recent assessment by ten months, three times the review volume at a higher score, a 6:30am opening against 7:00am, more than twice the places, and a confirmed funded kinder program. Deep Creek is cheaper by $44.32 a day, includes more, has held its rating across two assessments, and carries no fire-risk closure obligation. We put Deep Creek first because the fee difference is large and costs nothing in inclusions, but a family weighting currency of evidence and centre size would be right to reverse it.

Operating from Andersons Creek Road with 74 approved places, this is the third of the suburb's Exceeding-rated services and the only one run by a national not-for-profit. Its grounds include a vegetable patch and a beehive that parents mention by name in their reviews, and a qualified cook prepares meals on site each day. The centre sits on a corner block a few streets from the Deep Creek reserve, and it runs nursery, toddler and kindergarten rooms across the under-school range.

The May 2023 assessment returned Exceeding overall with five of the seven quality areas above the standard. Children's health and safety and governance and leadership both sit at Meeting. Read against the April 2017 assessment, which was also Exceeding but with six areas above the standard, the coverage has narrowed rather than widened: governance and leadership moved down between the two. That is the clearest single reason it ranks below the other two, each of which is above the standard in every one of the seven areas.

At $193.67 a day to 35 months and $188.05 from 36 months it is the dearest centre on this page. Five items are included for the youngest bands, breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and nappies, with excursions added from 25 months. Set against Deep Creek at $143.00 with eight items, and Guardian at $187.32 with six, it holds the weakest fee-to-inclusions position of the three, and the difference against Deep Creek runs to about $7,900 a year on a three-day week before subsidy.

The centre states it opens every weekday of the year except public holidays, and it runs a government-funded kindergarten program alongside long day care. Casual and permanent places were showing Monday to Friday when the register was read, which makes it the most immediately available of the three for a family that cannot wait out a list. Its Google score, 4.2 across 25 reviews, is the lowest of the three ranked centres, though the reviews we read describe the garden and the length of educator tenure warmly.

Third on this page still means Exceeding, and the drop from here to the seven Meeting-rated services locally is wider than anything separating the top three. Its case is availability and program: places available every weekday, a garden and kitchen that parents write about, and year-round weekday cover with no bushfire closure clause. Its weaknesses are plain enough to state. It charges the most of the three, by $6.35 to $50.67 a day, it includes the least, its parent score is the lowest here at 4.2, and its quality-area coverage has narrowed since 2017 rather than widened.
