Exceeding NQS · November 2025★ Google 4.6/5 · 30 reviews

Google reviews, captured 20 October 2026

Children's health and safety: Meeting · Physical environment: Meeting · 5 areas Exceeding

Regulatory detail and operational conditions

Back-to-back Exceeding ratings, August 2022 then November 2025, with one provider throughout. Five of seven quality areas rate above the standard; Meeting applies to two areas, the physical environment plus children's health and safety. No rating above Exceeding comes from routine assessment; ACECQA confers Excellent solely on application.

Guardian Early Learning, a 178-service group, operates this centre at 349 High Street, and its 42 approved places make this the smallest centre ranked here. The centre's page describes open-plan indoor studios and two outdoor yards where a water pump, vegetable gardens, pet rabbits and fish all feature. Its To BE Me program logs each child's milestones from the nursery onward.

November 2025 brought a second straight Exceeding rating after August 2022, and the provider did not change in between. The five areas rated beyond Meeting are educational program, staffing, relationships with children, partnerships with families, and governance, while the physical environment, along with health and safety, sat at Meeting. The approval holds no conditions, and regulatory officers last called in October 2025.

Guardian's Flying Start to School supplies the kinder: two years long, which the centre calls government-funded; it runs within its care hours. Weekday opening is 7:00am to 6:00pm. Starting Blocks showed casual and ongoing places on each weekday, and families arrange a visit or an enquiry directly with the centre, which states no enrolment priority of any kind.

Its rates top the three in both bands: $227.92 to 35 months and $221.58 from 36 months, up from $218.74 for under-ones in July 2025. For under-threes six items are covered (breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, the program and nappies), and from 36 months nappies drop off, leaving five. Dial the card's number to reach the centre directly; Google shows Guardian's national 1300 line.

Our take

Guardian is first on recency: its assessment is 33 months newer than Princes Close's, and between two centres at one level our method lets the fresher result decide. That comes at a price. Princes Close charges $57.92 less per day to 35 months and $54.58 less from 36 months, and rates every area Exceeding, so a family weighing cost above recency may prefer second place. Guardian answers with casual days, a funded two-year kinder and 4.6 across 30 Google reviews.

Best for: Parents who rank a recent assessment first and like a small 42-place centre with two yards, pet rabbits and fish, and casual days on offer.

Princes Close Early Years' Service

17 Princes Street, Prahran VIC 3181

Exceeding NQS · February 2023

All 7 quality areas: Exceeding

Regulatory detail and operational conditions

Exceeding in all seven quality areas, repeating January 2018. Nothing in standard assessment ranks above Exceeding; Excellent is a distinct award ACECQA makes on application. The register records the address as 17 Princes Street, while the council's page and Google Maps say 17 Princes Close.

Princes Close is a council service: the City of Stonnington operates it as one of its own early years services, not a private group. Children from three months to six years fill its 60 approved places, and the council describes intimate indoor spaces leading to a large, open outdoor area designed for natural play. New long day care applications are lodged on the council's registration page.

Its February 2023 assessment rated all seven quality areas Exceeding, as the January 2018 one had, and the same operator still holds the approval. Nothing is imposed as a condition, and no enforcement action has been recorded in two years. September 2024 was the most recent regulatory visit, earlier than at Guardian or Busy Bees, a date rather than a finding.

Rates are the lowest on this page: $170.00 daily up to 35 months and $167.00 from 36 months; in January 2026 the under-three rate was $163.50. Both bands include seven items, among them breakfast, lunch, excursions and extra meals. The council's meal list (morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, late snack) leaves breakfast out, so check that point when you call.

According to the council, its kindergarten program for three- and four-year-olds attracts funding, and its page takes kindergarten registrations separately. It opens 7:30am to 6:00pm on weekdays. Starting Blocks showed no vacancy of either kind on any day from 19 to 25 October, so register well ahead and ask the council how it offers places when they come up.

Our take

On value Princes Close is hard to beat: every quality area Exceeding, the page's cheapest rate in either age band, and seven listed inclusions against Guardian's six (five from 36 months). Only recency holds it to second, since its rating trails Guardian's by 33 months. No vacancies showed in our week, and its Google listing names a different street from the register, so no review score appears.

Best for: Cost-conscious families wanting a council service rated Exceeding across the board, who can register early and wait for a place.

Busy Bees at Prahran

2 Donald Street, Prahran VIC 3181

Meeting NQS · March 2023★ Google 4.3/5 · 37 reviews

Google reviews, captured 20 October 2026

Educational program and practice: Exceeding · Children's health and safety: Exceeding · Relationships with children: Exceeding · 4 areas Meeting

Regulatory detail and operational conditions

Rating issued March 2023 under the previous provider; provider changed 3 August 2026. It traded as Nido Early School Prahran before the change. Two conditions are attached. One, to be met within three months of approval, required arrangements with the regional office so that it could be present when the service rehearses its emergency and evacuation procedures; the other requires staff to follow the Multilevel Movement Procedure, which provides daily outdoor-space access.

Regulatory visit July 2026: Starting Blocks: no enforcement action in two years

Hours
Monday to Friday, 6:30am to 6:30pm
Ages
6 weeks to 5 years
CCS approved
Yes
Capacity
60 children

Busy Bees at Prahran occupies a heritage building at 2 Donald Street which, the centre says, has always housed learning. Formerly Nido Early School Prahran, it passed on 3 August 2026 to Busy Bees Early Learning, a 121-service group. Sixty approved places are split into nursery, toddler and kindergarten rooms, and the youngest children join at six weeks.

The current rating comes from March 2023, before that handover, so it describes the previous operator's service. That assessment gave Meeting overall, with Exceeding in three areas: educational program and practice, children's health and safety, and relationships with children. January 2018 had also produced Meeting, and a regulatory visit followed in July 2026.

Educators rather than outside providers lead sport, art, science, gardening and First Nations perspectives, the centre reports, alongside language, music, dance, cooking and sports programs. Neither of its two conditions, an evacuation-rehearsal arrangement due within three months of approval and the multilevel movement procedure for daily outdoor access, is phrased as a sanction, and its enforcement record is clear.

Starting Blocks shows neither fees nor vacancies for it. The site quotes $216.70 a day irrespective of age, including meals plus nappies and wipes, which sits between Princes Close and Guardian in both bands. At 6:30am to 6:30pm its day outlasts every other Prahran centre listed here. The card shows the centre's own line; Google gives the group's 1300 number.

Our take

Busy Bees is third because its Meeting rating sits a level below both Exceeding centres, and that rating predates the August 2026 change of operator. In its favour: opening from 6:30am to 6:30pm, a site-quoted price that includes nappies throughout, and 4.3 from 37 Google reviews, the deepest matched record here. Ask the new operator what the handover changed and whether its kinder is funded, since its site is silent on that.

Best for: Families with long commutes who need care from 6:30am until 6:30pm, want nappies supplied and have a baby as young as six weeks.

About childcare in Prahran

Prahran carries the 3181 postcode and sits in the City of Stonnington. Prahran East shares that number, though Australia Post reserves it for post office boxes, so no centre is located there. Starting Blocks shows five services registered to Prahran itself: four providing long day care and one after-school program, which falls outside this comparison. Until October 2026 our South Yarra page ranked two of the four.

Ownership differs sharply between them. The council operates one, two belong to national groups (Guardian Early Learning has 178 services, Busy Bees Early Learning 121), and a family-owned centre approved in April 2026 completes the set. Weekday doors open anywhere from 6:30am to 7:30am, and just two of the four, the council service and Busy Bees, publish a youngest starting age.

Two hold Exceeding NQS, from November 2025 and February 2023. With a gap beyond a year, the newer result orders them under our method, so fees and reviews never enter that decision. Busy Bees, whose Meeting rating predates its August 2026 change of operator, follows, and the unassessed newcomer appears below the ranking.

Looking wider? Our Inner Melbourne guide lists every suburb we rank across the area, with each one's top centres.

Prahran falls under the City of Stonnington, postcode 3181; Prahran East uses the same number for post office boxes only.

Subsidy approval

Guardian, Princes Close and Busy Bees all qualify for the subsidy. Services Australia pays the centre directly, leaving you the gap, at a percentage tied to what your household earns and its approved activity hours.

Funded kinder

Guardian names a government-funded two-year kinder, and the council says Princes Close runs a funded program for three- and four-year-olds. Busy Bees advertises a kindergarten room without mentioning funding.

Rates that change at three

Guardian and Princes Close both charge less from 36 months, and Guardian also removes nappies from its inclusions at that age. Busy Bees quotes a single figure itself.

Other services in Prahran worth knowing about

Sakura Early Learning Centre

Provisional, not yet assessed: approved in April 2026, at 698 Malvern Road, with 52 places and a flat $200.00 a day, six inclusions including nappies but not breakfast. Its approval demands an extra educator, beyond the regulation 123 minimum, in the toddler room to support outdoor access. Placed below the ranked three because our first criterion weighs the level and date of an assessment, and as a Provisional service Sakura has no assessment to weigh.

Our Lady of Lourdes OSHC Prahran

An after-school program for children at primary school, outside the scope of this comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Which Prahran centre ranks first?

Guardian Childcare & Education Prahran on High Street. Both it and Princes Close hold Exceeding NQS, and Guardian's November 2025 assessment is 33 months newer than Princes Close's, which decides the order between two centres at the same level.

Is Princes Close cheaper than Guardian Prahran?

Yes, in both age bands on Starting Blocks: $170.00 against $227.92 up to 35 months, and $167.00 against $221.58 from 36 months. Guardian includes nappies for under-threes; Princes Close lists excursions and an extra meal.

Did Busy Bees at Prahran use to be Nido?

Yes. It traded as Nido Early School Prahran and changed provider on 3 August 2026. The March 2023 Meeting rating was issued before that change, under the previous provider.

Why are Princes Close and Guardian Prahran no longer on the South Yarra page?

Both are registered in Prahran 3181, and we rank each centre on one page only, the one for the locality its sources agree on. Our South Yarra page now covers only the pair of long day care centres inside 3141.

Why is Sakura Early Learning Centre not ranked?

Its approval dates from April 2026 and it holds Provisional status, with no assessment yet. Our first criterion weighs an NQS rating's level and date; with nothing to weigh there, Sakura is listed after the ranked three with its fee and condition details.
